BigCommerce takes the parts of running a store that generate no competitive advantage — PCI scope, patching, uptime, scaling for a sale — and makes them somebody else's problem. What it gives back is an unusually complete API surface, which is why it survives contact with real B2B requirements better than most SaaS platforms. Zelpex builds on it for teams who want platform maintenance off their plate without giving up integration depth.
We build storefronts on Stencil, headless front ends against the GraphQL Storefront API, and the integration layer that connects either to ERP, PIM and fulfilment. Multi-storefront setups — several brands or regions from one catalog and one back office — are where BigCommerce tends to earn its keep, and where most of our work with it happens.
We test your hard requirements against what the platform will and will not allow before anyone commits — a limit found in month one is a design decision, the same limit found in month six is a rebuild.
Variants, options, price lists and customer groups get modelled against how you actually sell, because retrofitting a catalog structure after launch touches every integration you have built on top of it.
BigCommerce meters API calls. We design syncs around that from the start — batching, webhooks instead of polling, caching what does not change — rather than discovering the ceiling under peak load.
We migrate data with a dry run and a reconciliation report, keep redirects intact for SEO, and leave your team able to run the store without calling us for routine changes.
More than on most SaaS platforms, less than on self-hosted. You can build a fully custom checkout against the Checkout SDK, and that covers most real requirements. What you cannot do is change server-side order processing, so if your model needs unusual logic between payment and fulfilment, that belongs in an integration rather than in checkout.
Only if the integrations are written without them in mind, which is the common failure. A nightly full-catalog sync that re-sends unchanged products will hit the ceiling; the same sync driven by webhooks and change detection will not come close. We size this during design, not after.
BigCommerce usually wins on B2B depth, multi-storefront and API openness at a lower licence cost. Shopify Plus usually wins on app ecosystem, checkout conversion out of the box and sheer operational polish. If your requirements are mostly catalog and integration complexity, we lean BigCommerce; if they are mostly speed to market and merchandising, we will say Shopify.
The interesting work on BigCommerce is rarely the theme. It is the catalog model and the integrations that have to hold once real order volume arrives.
We are comfortable being the technical half of a project where your team owns merchandising and campaigns. That includes writing the integration layer, setting up staging and deployment, and documenting it well enough that the next developer — ours or yours — is not reverse-engineering it.
Tell us what you are building and what is getting in the way. You will get an honest read on scope, approach, and whether we are the right team for it — including when the answer is that you do not need us.
